Mission Statement:  Grace Community School is an interdenominational community school that educates children through a Christian philosophy of education. GCS recognizes that God, through His word, the Bible, is the absolute authority and basis for all truth. Under that authority we desire to work with the local church, the evangelical community and others who support our basic mission. With the Christian community, we seek to assist Christian families in the Biblical responsibility to train their children to become Christ-like and to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives in the home church and society. Since we are an open enrollment school, according to school policies, we welcome families desiring entrance to GCS who are not attending church or do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We invite them to GCS as an extended family member. It is our desire to introduce the student and family to the Bible.

Hobbies:  classic cars and astronomy.

Education:  B.S. in Business Administration from Illinois State; M.A. in Christian School Administration from Grace Theological Seminary.

I have been Married to my wife Kayla since 2012 and we have five wonderful children together; Leah, Evajane, Titus, Adelyn, and Ezekiel. My Hobbies include sports, cheering on my Nebraska Cornhuskers and taking hikes. My wife and I have enjoyed volunteering at our church with children’s church or with children’s sports. I have previous experience in bank management and insurance. After serving on the school board, I felt God calling me to change careers and work at Grace Community School full time.

In Matthew 19:14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” At Grace Community School, it is our strong desire to come along beside parents in developing each child’s relationship with Christ. I accepted Christ in my life as a child and was blessed to be raised in a Christian home where we regularly attended Church and my parents sent me and my siblings to Christian Schools. Now, as a father, I understand that the most important thing in raising my children is that they develop a personal relationship with Jesus. At Grace Community School, we have Bible class every day. We pray throughout the day. We utilize a strong academic curriculum (Abeka) that points to Christ and that teaches Biblical truths in every subject from Math to Reading and everything in between.

In today’s world, between costs, selective entry requirements, among other restrictions, Christian Education can seem unobtainable. I am so proud that at Grace Community School, not only are we an open enrollment School, but we are also the most affordable Christian School in the area. I believe God is using the school to share His Grace and Love and Truth within our Community.

Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

As a teacher, my aim is to help young people find their passion and path in life through God’s Word and academic lessons that are authentic, engaging and relevant to their lives. It is also to
develop within them the thinking and learning skills they will need to learn well after they have left my classroom. I love the great outdoors and my favorite activities are hiking, biking and all forms of outdoor sports.

A favorite Bible verse of mine is “’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11. My quest is to have each student consider what God’s plan is for their life and how they can use the gifts, talents, abilities and passions God has given them for His glory.

Melodee Mears

I teach at GCS because I love children, young people, teaching and God. Teaching at Grace allows me to fulfill God’s calling on my life; incorporating my love for God and my love for people. Learning is a true gift from our Creator, and teaching children to enjoy and love this gift is truly interesting, exciting and worthwhile. I enjoy God’s creation through nature walks and
hiking, spending time with my family, grandchildren, friends and my Sheltie dog, Isabella.

My favorite Bible verse is I John 4:9-11 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”
